On June 24th in Tucson, we celebrate Dia De San Juan Festival. It’s a traditional start of Tucson’s summer and the coming monsoon rain season and honors St. John the Baptist (patron saint of water). It’s held on the corner of Congress Street and Avenida del Convento, west of downtown Tucson at Mercado San Agustin. There is entertainment provided by mariachi bands and colorful folklorico dancers. You will also find plenty of food vendors offering traditional Hispanic foods and cooling drinks. Yes, it will be hot, over 100 degrees, but the entire celebration is a plea for the rains to return another year.
