We have been visiting Santa Fe for almost 20 years. Our first time was to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We enjoy the amazing museums within the city, the mountains and the small villages and pueblos. Our recent visit was for Fred Harvey/Mary Colter events. Our first day we decided to have breakfast at one of our favorite bakeries, Sage Bakehouse. Their croissants come straight from the gods.
When you finish one of their almond croissants you need to restrain yourself from licking the plate. Yes they are that good. We also had along the new Mary Colter designed Mimbreño mugs. Colter was so moved by Mimbreño art she created 37 Mimbreño style drawings to fit on the dinnerware pieces for the Santa Fe Railroad’s new Super Chief Two elite dining car. Sadly the production of this pattern was relocated overseas. Tucson’s HF Coors has received permission from the BNSF Railroad to reproduce it again in the United States. What better place to enjoy a cup of coffee in one of Mary’s mugs than in Santa Fe. Aren’t they gorgeous and the quality is perfection.
Next time you are in Santa Fe, consider breakfast or lunch at Sage Bakehouse. You will discover them at 535 Cerrillos Road. If we would have had our RV, we would have bought several loaves of bread to store in the freezer. Maybe next trip. Mary’s mugs will be traveling with us on future adventures. I wonder where we will discover them next.
